Seyðisfjörður

Seyðisfjörður
Seydisfjordur provides an ideal natural harbour for cruise ships. The peaceful village, shaped by Norwegian entrepreneurs over a century ago, lies in the shelter of dramatic snow flecked mountains. The colourful Norwegian-style wooden houses render this village unique in Iceland. Inhabitants are 700 and have lived largely off fishing, but in recent years tourism has increased rapidly. Many would consider Seydisfjordur to be on the verge of the uninhabitable - certainly the proximity to nature and its harsh forces has shaped those living here.
Especially during summer, Seydisfjordur has a dynamic artistic scene, with numerous artists visiting or even settling here in recent years.
